🌱 Frequently Asked Questions — The Weedy Garden Makeover

Welcome to the FAQ page!
Here you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions about the Weedy Garden Makeover, how it works, who can enter, and what happens behind the scenes.

If your question isn’t answered here, just email theweedygarden@gmail.com

— I’m always happy to help.

1. Who are the volunteers?

The volunteers are everyday legends — gardeners, top fans of The Weedy Garden YouTube channel all over Australia who simply want to help transform someone’s space into an edible oasis.
They donate their time, energy, and skills because they love learning, connecting, and contributing to something meaningful.

Every makeover becomes a special little community on its own.

2. Why are you doing this?

Because I believe gardens change lives.
Food gardens bring joy, health, resilience, and connection — and many people just need a helping hand to get started.

Running these makeovers lets me:

  • Give someone a life-changing garden

  • Bring people together

  • Film the whole experience to inspire others

  • And keep The Weedy Garden journey growing

It’s my way of giving back and building a community of growers all over Australia.

3. Who can enter?

Anyone in Australia can enter — whether you rent, own, have a tiny courtyard, a suburban backyard, or a huge rural block.
If you have a space that could become an edible paradise, you can enter.

4. How will I know if I win?

I will personally contact the winner by:

  • Email,

  • Phone, and

  • An announcement on The Weedy Garden newsletter and social channels.

If you win, you’ll know — loudly and clearly!

5. What if I don’t want to be filmed?

Filming is a core part of the makeover process.
The transformation is documented for YouTube so people all over the world can learn, be inspired, and follow the journey.

If you prefer not to be filmed, that is respected, but we would love to film the crew doing what they came to do.

6. Why does it cost money to enter?

It is a small community of only a few hundred customers, that fuel these makeovers, not a giant corporation.
The funds from entries pay for:

  • Materials and supplies

  • Trees, plants, soil, compost

  • Tools and equipment

  • Volunteer catering and logistics

  • Travel

  • Accommodation

  • My filming, editing, and production costs

  • Advertising the giveaway so it reaches more people

These makeovers cost tens of thousands of dollars to deliver.
Entry fees make it all possible — and keep it fair and sustainable.

7. Who gets the leftover money after the prize is delivered and everyone is paid?

Once the prize has been delivered, and the advertising and production costs are covered, any remaining funds are used to keep The Weedy Garden project alive and growing.

This includes:

  • Creating the videos, stories, and education you see on YouTube

  • Maintaining and improving the garden so it can continue to be filmed and shared

  • Supporting future community projects

  • Allowing me (Weedy) to keep doing this full-time so the mission — helping people grow food — can continue

In simple terms:
Any leftover funds go back into The Weedy Garden and the work I do here, so I can keep teaching, creating, and growing this project for years to come.

8. What can I do with the digital design that I downloaded?

Anything you like!
The digital design is yours to enjoy, use, print, and play with.

Because it’s high-resolution, you can:

  • Print it as a poster for your home or garden shed

  • Put it on a T-shirt, hoodie, or tote bag

  • Turn it into Christmas cards

  • Stick it on your fridge

  • Keep it on your phone or tablet as inspiration

It’s simply a creative, fun, high-quality piece of artwork to inspire your space and bring a bit of Weedy Garden magic into your life.

9. I can’t see my download link in my email. What do I do?

First, check your:

  • Spam

  • Promotions tab

  • Junk folder

If it’s still missing, email me at theweedygarden@gmail.com

and I’ll resend it right away.

10. How can I volunteer?

Easy!

Join my free newsletter at the bottom of this page.
I send out a newsletter explaining:

  • Where the makeover is

  • The dates

  • What we’re doing

  • What kind of help we need

If you want to join, you simply reply to the email.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn, grow, and be part of something wholesome with like-minded people.

11. Is this happening every year?

No — this is the last big, full-scale makeover of this kind.

These large projects require:

  • Complex permits and approvals

  • Sponsorship negotiations

  • A big financial risk for a small community

It’s a massive undertaking… and it’s time to simplify.

Next year, the makeovers will continue — but they’ll be smaller, simpler, and much cheaper to enter, and member based.
This means:

  • A more relaxed, sustainable style of makeover

  • More opportunities for more people to get involved

  • Faster, more frequent garden transformations

The mission stays the same:
Help everyday Australians grow food and bring their gardens to life.

12. If I don’t want the digital design, can I still enter?

Yes.
Just don’t download the design file — your entry is still valid.

Every purchase (downloaded or not) counts as your entry into the draw.

13. What if I only have a small yard that needs some love?

Perfect!
Some of the best transformations happen in tiny, overlooked spaces.
A makeover isn’t about size — it’s about possibility.

If your yard needs love, clarity, structure, or fresh food abundance, you absolutely can enter.

14. Can I enter on behalf of someone else?

Yes — as long as you have their full permission and they are willing to accept the prize if they win.

You can enter for:

  • A friend

  • A neighbour

  • A family member

  • Someone you believe truly deserves a garden transformation

If they win, the makeover will be done at their property, and they must agree to the terms, including being filmed.

15. Can I give the prize to a school or community group?

Yes — absolutely.

Schools, community gardens, neighbourhood centres, and charity organisations can all receive the prize as long as:

  • You have permission from the organisation

  • They agree to accept the makeover

  • They agree to the filming and access requirements

This is a beautiful way to create something meaningful for a whole community.

16. Is this legal?

Yes — completely.

The Weedy Garden Makeover giveaway is fully legal, properly registered, and operates under the correct trade promotion permits for Australia.

You can view the details in the Terms & Conditions (at the bottom of the main page), which include:

  • Permit numbers

  • Conditions of entry

  • Eligibility requirements

  • Draw method

  • Privacy and data handling

Everything is done by the book so the competition is fair, transparent, and compliant.
